As seen on Pinterest: DIY iphone cover

Today I’m bringing you another super easy 3 step DIY project from Pinterest. As many of you may know, Matt surprised me with an iphone for my birthday! A few days later, he found a cheap clear case to protect it. I popped it on and now a month later it’s covered in scratches. Clearly it’s doing it’s job! But, I’m not crazy about seeing all the scratches since it’s clear. When I saw this DIY iphone case on Pinterest I knew I had to try it out! The project is originally from howtonestforless.com. Having a patterned case helps hide the scratches and makes my phone look brand new (since it is)! To top it off, it’s easy to switch out when my mood changes!

Here are the things that you will need:

-your favorite scrapbook paper
-a clear iphone case
-an iphone (duh!)
-x-acto knife or scissors
-pencil
-ruler

1. Step 1: Trace around your iphone with the screen facing up. Using the back of the plastic case, trace the cutout for the camera.

Step 2: Use a ruler or straightedge to cut out the paper with an x-acto knife. The cutout for the camera is the trickiest part. Patience is key.

Step 3: Place the paper in the back of the case and snap it around your phone.

Talk away in style! Feel free to cut out a few different patterns using different paper to switch out as you please!

As Seen on Pinterest: DIY Pedestal

While scouring Pinterest with every free second I get (sad, but true) I came across this really cute pedestal.

I love that it’s used in the bathroom to display makeup and other pretty things. Matt and I don’t have any drawers in our bathroom which can be a real pain. We store bathroom stuff under the sink, in an entertainment stand turned shelving (you’ll have to see it to believe it looks good), and on the counter. I hate having messy counters and I especially hate having our bathroom stuff in view for guests to see. But, I thought I would make the best of it and make this pedestal. It’s the easiest project you could ever do. It took me all of 10 minutes!

Supplies needed: candlestick, 1-2 plate(s), gluegun

Step 1: Buy a cheap candlestick and plate that you love. I got my candlestick on clearance at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and my plate at Pier 1. I spent less than $10 total.

Step 2: Center the candlestick on the bottom of the plate and trace around where it lands with a pencil.

Step 3: Using a hot glue gun, glue the candlestick to the bottom of the plate.

Step 4 (optional): Repeat steps with another plate on the other side of the candlestick. Make sure that you glue the bottom of the candlestick to the top of the second plate. Since I have limited counter space, I skipped the second plate.

Ta-da! Now you have a cute pedestal. Easy as pie! Comment with questions!

As seen on Pinterest: Peanut Butter Pie

If you’re a frequent blog reader/lover you’ve probably heard of Pinterest. If you haven’t yet, let me explain! Pinterest.com is a virtual pin-board. People everywhere find photos of things they love and they “pin” them to various boards they’ve created. It’s a great way to find inspiration and fun projects. I’ve decided to take on the challenge of utilizing this website by actually doing some of the fun projects I’ve run across!

With that said, one day while browsing Pinterest, I came across a delicious looking peanut butter pie. I happen to love anything with both peanut butter and chocolate. So, I followed the links back to where the recipe originated from so I could find the recipe.

To my surprise, I not only found the recipe, but a touching post by a woman named Jennie who made this pie in memory of her husband who had recently passed away. It was his favorite. You can read the post here. I was practically in tears before I finished reading the post and decided that making “Mikey’s Peanut Butter Pie” would be the perfect start to, “As seen on Pinterest.”

This is what you’ll need to get started (a similar recipe using the same ingredients can also be found on Jennie’s blog):
8 oz. chocolate cookies
4 Tbl. butter, melted
4 oz. chopped semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup chopped peanuts
1 cup heavy cream
8 oz. cream cheese
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup powder sugar
1 14oz. can sweet condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. lemon juice

1. Crumble chocolate cookies using a food processor or mixer. I used my mini food processor

2. Melt butter in a small bowl and combine with cookie crumbs. Stir.

3. Press mixture into the bottom of a pie dish to make the crust. After doing this I realized you can also buy an oreo crust as a substitute.

4. Melt chocolate chips and pour over the crust. Clearly you can see I had trouble with this part! Chop peanuts and sprinkle over melted chocolate. Place in fridge.

5. Mix heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Transfer to a bowl and place in fridge. I have to admit, this was my first time making whipped cream. You can buy it from the store, but it doesn’t taste as good. I added a few teaspoons of powdered sugar in it while it was mixing. P.S. Isn’t my new mixer SO pretty?

That’s what a “stiff peak” looks like!

6. Place cream cheese and peanut butter in mixer and beat until fluffy.

7. Beat in powdered sugar on low. Add condensed milk, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Mix. Reduce mixer speed. Add in 1/3 of the whipping cream.

Your peanut butter mixture should now look like this! Yum!

8. Fold in the remaining whipped cream. I would also save a small amount to dab on the top just for looks!

9. Pour mixture into pie dish.
10. Drizzle melted chocolate on top.  I used chocolate syrup because my chocolate melting skills aren’t up to par. Refrigerate for a few hours before serving.

Ta-da! The yummiest, most beautiful peanut butter pie I’ve ever made. Okay, maybe it was my first one. Thanks Jennie for sharing your recipe and allowing us to be a part of something special.

As seen on Pinterest conclusion: I must try.
